Our Newest
Addition

HEAVY RESCUE 2
|
 |
|
 |
Our most recent addition
was obtained through a EMA grant to assist departments in planning for today's
looming threats of disaster on a statewide scale. The grant provided rescue
capabilities of varying degree to numerous departments throughout the state.
Florence was awarded a grant for Heavy Rescue. We are responsible for a 13
county response area. The apparatus was ordered from Sutphen. It is a rescue
style body with climate controlled cab, seating for 8, 430hp caterpillar diesel,
command desk in cab, hydraulic-electric-and air reels, roof mounted command
lighting, roll up doors, and 12k winch. The apparatus is designated as the
Heavy Rescue Company 2 of Region 5 for the state. It will respond to incidents
outside of Florence upon request of the EMA. It has been equipped with numerous
tools and is fully functional and staffed 24 hours a day by the Florence Fire
Rescue. It is currently assigned to all multi-alarm fires, high rise alarms,
mva with entrapment, and other rescue situations. It also catches a few medical
alarms if needed. The truck receives a daily staffing of two men. If called
upon for state duty, the truck has a team of men trained for heavy rescue that
report in for duty.
New Arrival

Engine 4 was upgraded with
a new Sutphen pumper. It has a 430hp Cat diesel. This is the first new engine
to be placed in service at Station 4 since it's opening in 1964. The engine is
equipped with a hydraulic generator to power scene lighting, a 1500 gpm hale
pump, 7 man cab, and hydraulic reel. Squad 10 has arrived and is a
twin to this Engine. Photos of 10 will be available soon.
